Bastien Alex is a research fellow at IRIS, in charge of the Climate, Energy and Security program. He is mainly working on climate change impacts on international relations and energy issues. Since November 2016, he has been supervising for the French Ministry of Defense with François Gemenne the Geopolitical Observatory of climate change impacts in terms of security and defense, which analyses the climate security issues and their defense implications in a geopolitical perspective. He took part on several studies for the French Ministry of Defense on security impacts of climate change, security and energy issues in the Mediterranean region and in the Balkans.
He is responsible for the Diploma of International Relations at IRIS Sup’ (Master I level). He has been teaching at the University of Cergy-Pontoise (international organizations) and at the Institut Supérieur de gestion in Paris (MBA Sustainable development).
Bastien Alex is a graduate of the University Paris VII (Master II degree in Geography of emerging and developing countries) and of the University Paris VIII (Master II degree in International and European Studies).
