
Cindy Holleman is a Senior Economist of Food Security and Nutrition in the Economic and Social Development Department, of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). She is currently, the Editor of the FAO annual flagship publication, The State of Food Security and Nutrition in World Report.
Cindy has worked for more than twenty-five years in the field of food security and nutrition analysis, early warning and information systems, and disaster risk reduction and management. She is also one of the original co-developers of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). She has been working for FAO since January 2004 in various capacities, initially in Kenya as the Food Security Technical Manager for the FAO Somalia Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit (FSNAU), then as Chief Technical Adviser for the same unit from 2007 to 2010. Until early 2013, she was the Head of Office of the FAO Sub-Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office for Southern Africa, and then as the IPC Global Programme Manager in Rome from 2013 to 2016. Prior to joining FAO, Cindy worked on food security issues for a number of other international organizations in Washington DC and in Africa, including the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), FEWS NET, WFP, SC (UK), CARE, and the World Bank.
