Dr Francesco Rocca – World Conference – French Red Cross
Can you introduce yourself
I am Francesco Rocca, President of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, and also President of the Italian Red Cross
What do you think of the French Red Cross conference “Health and Climate Change”?
This initiative was a great moment when national societies came together to reflect on this challenge that concerns us all: the impact of climate change on health.
What messages did you come to bring?
The world is changing, the challenges are new, it is important to sit down, reflect and discuss together how we will be able to meet this challenge.
What do you think are the priority actions to be taken?
The first step in the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement is to raise awareness of the importance of this issue. It is time for national societies to raise awareness and sensitize communities to the impact of climate change on the lives of people, especially the most vulnerable.
What message do you want to send to future generations?
I invite all volunteers to raise this issue with decision-makers in their national societies, because it is time for national societies to change their approach to communities. Volunteers are on the front line in the field, they know how to engage with communities and best prepare them to cope with the consequences of climate change.
